Papadiamantis Street is the lively heart of Skiathos Town. Named after the celebrated Greek author Alexandros Papadiamantis, this charming pedestrian street is lined with shops, boutiques and local crafts. Browse for souvenirs, handmade jewellery, clothing and traditional Greek products, then stop at one of the many cafés, bars or tavernas. In the evening, the street comes alive with lights and energy, making it perfect for a stroll and a taste of Skiathos nightlife.
The Skiathos waterfront is lined with restaurants, cafés and bars. It is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal or drink while admiring the sea and harbour. You will also find small boats offering island tours, water taxis and trips to nearby islands. Whether you visit during the day or at sunset, the promenade is a relaxing place to experience the charm of Skiathos.
Kentavros is a classic bar in Skiathos Town, known for its cosy atmosphere and excellent music. From jazz and blues to classic rock, it is an ideal place for music lovers to relax and enjoy a drink. Its warm, welcoming character attracts both locals and visitors looking for a laid-back evening in the heart of Skiathos.
Lalaria Beach is one of the most iconic places on Skiathos, known for turquoise water, smooth white pebbles and the rock arch of Tripia Petra. It is accessible only by sea. Join a boat trip from Skiathos Old Port, weather permitting; departures may be cancelled when conditions are unsafe. There are no facilities, so bring water, sun protection and suitable footwear. Please leave the white pebbles where they belong.
Kastro is a historic site on a steep cliff at the northern tip of Skiathos and was once the island’s medieval capital. Its ruined churches, stone walls and Aegean views make the final approach worthwhile. It lies about 11 km from Skiathos Town. By road, the car stops before the site and the final approach takes roughly 30 minutes on foot; a boat from the Old Port is the scenic alternative. Wear sturdy shoes and check conditions before setting out.
The Monastery of Panagia Evangelistria is an active historic religious centre surrounded by lush pine forest. Built between 1794 and 1806 by Kollyvades monks, it played an important role in Greek history, including sheltering revolutionaries during the 1821 War of Independence and the creation of the first Greek flag. Visitors can admire the Byzantine-style church and its 17th- and 18th-century icons, explore smaller chapels and visit an old olive press that now houses a folklore museum and an exhibition of local products. The monastery also produces Alypiakos, its distinctive red wine. It is a peaceful place where history, culture and nature come together.

The Skiathos Health Centre is the island’s main facility for urgent and more serious medical needs. Several well-stocked pharmacies can also help with minor ailments and injuries.

In addition to this, the island has several other big supermarkets as well as many kiosks and smaller stores where you can find food, drinks, toiletries, and other daily necessities.

The island’s bus service is a convenient way to explore Skiathos, with stops near many beaches and hotels along the west coast. Buses run frequently during the summer and provide an affordable way to visit popular destinations.
Taxis and vehicle rentals, including cars, scooters and ATVs, are also widely available for places that are not served by the bus route.
Skiathos harbour is the island’s gateway to the mainland and nearby islands. Regular ferry services connect Skiathos with Volos and other destinations, making the harbour an important transport hub for travellers.
